Bayung Gede Village in Bali is an old village, the air in this village is cool because it is located at an altitude of about 800-900 meters above sea level. With the climate, dry land agriculture is the mainstay of the villagers, the village was developed as a pilot project tourism since 2010. Forms of the same house in the village made the village has its own characteristics different from other villages in the district Bangli.

In this village residents who had just married banned from entering the yard and not regarded as citizens of the
Bayung Gede Village before paying tumbakan (a kind of dowry) were handed over to the village in the form of two cows, and undergo penance (fasting). The husband and wife newlyweds were required to conduct a procession called "penyekeban" (maturation) lived in a small hut at the end of the village.

Bali has many ancient villages still maintained continuity and cultural heritage of our ancestors are, one of them is Bayung Gede Village that located in the district of Kintamani, Bangli Regency.

Not only that, Bayung Gede Village has a unique tradition in burying the placenta (umbilical cord) newborns. in general If the baby's navel placenta planted in the ground, in the village was placed in coconut shells and hung in a tree on the "Setra" (grave) specifically located behind the village and traditions put the placenta in a coconut shell has been going on since hundreds of years ago .

Then other unique traditions lies in the burial procession of men different from women's bodies, women's bodies buried in the position of women looked up as symbolized as the Earth Which was the burial should face to the sky, while the men buried the dead man face down on space that symbolizes the burial should be facing the earth.

Bayung Gede Village also famous as a producer of orange juice, coffee, various types of vegetables, corn and rice. It illustrates the livelihoods of the villagers themselves as farmers so do not be surprised if you visit the village when the morning until late evening you will not encounter the villagers because the time they spent working on their gardens and fields. However this is not the case at the time of execution of a religious ceremony, the residents will linger spending time in the village center. 

Not certain of the origin of the name of Bayung Gede  because according to village elders, Bayung Gede already exist as it is today. But it is different according to Thomas Reuters in his book A Custodians of the Sacred Mountains: Culture and Society in the mountains of Bali (Indonesia Obor, 2005) called Bayung Gede is a quaint village that became the parent of a number of other ancient villages in Bangli like Penglipuran Village, Sekardadi , Bonyoh and several other villages.

This village is about 55 kilometers northeast of Denpasar or approximately 35 kilometers north of Bangli and can be reached via two pathways, from the line-Payangan and Bangli-Kintamani.

The island of Bali is a beautiful charming, complete with all the unique customs and traditions of society that still lives to preserve their heritage, as well as the hospitality of the villagers make a tribute to the province to remain an icon of tourism in Indonesia.

Currently, very good accessibility to the village so as to provide comfort for travelers in this journey to a village.
